Oval Office 2008: "Arizona Senator John McCain will be in Michigan in September, his third trip to the crucial swing state this year, according to Detroit News columnist George Weeks. His last two visits were fundraisers for fellow Republicans - gathering "fund-raising IOUs" as the headline puts it, in this state which handed him a primary victory in 2000. September, however, will be different."

Political Wire: "Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR) has traveled to Washington three times in three weeks, and his 'heightened presence' in the nation's capitol, 'along with a new, trimmer look, has generated considerable buzz among politicos both in Arkansas and nationally that he is positioning himself for a presidential bid in 2008,' Roll Call reports."

Political Wire: "Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) 'is tapping into her husband's massive fund-raising network to build her own national organization in preparation for a possible 2008 White House bid,' the New York Post reports."

MyDD: "Last September, I wrote an article entitled Top Down Right-Wing Blogosphere Growing Powerful, that argued the anti-community nature of right-wing blogs was allowing them relatively greater message discipline than left wing blogs and a superior ability to influence the content of the national media." Thanks to the Daily Kos: for the link.

Western Democrat: "A big part of our discussions here at Western Democrat have been the question of culture, style, oratorical approach. Here's a question: Setting aside (for a moment) the 'Democrat' part of the equation... is there a Western style?"

Bull Moose: "As a minority party, Democrats need the language of persuasion more than the rhetoric of polarization. Fight, fight, fight is necessary. Convert, convert, convert is imperative."

Here's a opinion piece from the Rocky Mountain News urging the Democratic party to articulate a consistent message [June 13, 2005, "Speakout: Democrats are tying only slipknots"]. From the article, "Recent national polling figures tell us support for Republicans nationwide is dropping. This is no surprise considering the volatile price of energy, ongoing economic jitters and the continued carnage in Iraq. What is surprising, however, is that not only are Democrats not benefiting from this apparent decline in GOP popularity, but also their numbers are dropping as fast, if not faster."
