Denver Water is looking to hike rates again to punish conservation reduce the revenue shortfall from conservation, according to the Rocky Mountain News [February 24, 2005, "Denver Water eyes rate hike"]. From the article: "The utility had forecast 2005 water sales of $169.5 million, about 11 percent below normal. But even before the summer watering season hits, customers are reducing use, causing utility officials to prepare for reductions of as much as 20 percent to 30 percent, and water sales of just $144.8 million, according to Greg Fisher, Denver Water's chief planner. To offset the cash crunch, the utility may have to raise rates this spring, though no amount has been discussed. Any boost would come on the heels of an 8 percent rate hike that took effect Jan. 1 and a hike in service fees last September."
Water restrictions from Denver Water may be a thing of the (recent) past, according to the Denver Post [February 24, 2005, "Denver might ease water rules"].
