It looks like the estimated water savings from eradicating Tamarisk (Salt Cedar) might not be as large as originally hoped, according to this article from the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel. They write, "Tamarisk may not be as bad as you think, according to research presented Wednesday at the 2005 Tamarisk Symposium in Grand Junction...Some ecologists and politicians have claimed removing tamarisk would result in massive water savings along the Colorado River, helping to alleviate the current drought. Shafroth said expecting water savings of any great degree would be misleading to the public, who may have heightened expectations for the benefits of tamarisk removal."
