Uptime

Nicholas Riley says OS X crashes at least once a day for him. What the heck is he doing? My uptime looks like this:

 [localhost:~] % uptime
10:38AM up 30 days, 14:19, 2 users, load averages: 1.70, 1.34, 1.16
[localhost:~] %

For what it's worth, in the last month I've probably downloaded and installed 15-20 new applications -- mostly shareware and freeware, some of it buggy and unstable. I've also downloaded and played extensively with a couple versions of Mozilla (my full-time browser now), Chimera, and OmniWeb. I've even downloaded a couple of software updates from Apple in the last month. Basically I've been using my computer for 6-10 hours a day, doing whatever I need to do (browsing, email, photoshop in classic, word processing, small games), and the thing just keeps running. No muss, no fuss. iBook 600, 640 MB RAM, OS X 10.1.4. Very cool.  10:44:46 AM      comment

Sharing Words

NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday ran a short bit this morning on BookCrossing -- a web site that encourages people to share their favorite books with random strangers by leaving them in public places.

You know the feeling you get after reading a book that speaks to you, that touches your life, a feeling that you want to share it with someone else? BookCrossing.com gives you a simple way to share your books with the world, and follow their paths forever more!   10:06:56 AM      comment
