It's not tinitus I hear hissing in my ears. I'm now convinced that my head makes a resonance chamber and I'm hearing the amplified Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation. That is radiation which is the redshifted energy of the big bang, which happened about 14 billion years ago (also rather far away... well, no it happened here.) Forty years ago Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson, a couple of Bell Labs scientists with a government surplus antenna, discovered this startling and unmistakable evidence of the birth of our universe. In 1978 they received the Nobel Prize in Physics for their troubles. Way to go guys!
