Dave, one of the leaders in enabling non-teckies to get their thoughts onto the Web, explains why blogging is here to stay: "Here's why the economics work. People want more info, not less."

Here I don't think he's totally correct. People don't want MORE info. Believe me, at any moment I sit in front of my computer, I have I have instantaneous access to more information than I could possibly absorb in many lifetimes. And so do you. The problem isn't that I want more information; it's that I want a better signal-to-noise ratio. Blogs can help. For instance, on 9/11 blogs were in many ways a better source of info than the mainstream outlets.

But there also has to be a filtering function. Something to get me the best stuff and help me ignore the rest. That's where MOST of the value will be added. That's what my company is working on... although for business reasons we still haven't decided whether we'll apply it to the blogging world.
