Science fiction has made use of the concept of "wormholes in space" for decades. It's viewed as a way to take people from one part of the universe to another without coming up against such inconveniences as the speed of light. But the scientific community long ago came to the conclusion that, while the wormholes may exist, it would not be possible for a human to go in one and come out in a form remotely resembling life.
But a new result gives hope... at least when we get to the point of having a technology that enables us to create "a negative field equivalent to the energy that would be liberated by converting the mass of Jupiter." Via Dave.
