The open-source desktop OS question fascinates me. The problem, of course, is that Linux's desktop is not nearly as slick as Windows or MacOS 9 or X. But the industry may be doing the right things to change that. Will it ever actually get to the point of competing?
I'm thinking of adding a new category in my left-hand sidebar where such interesting issues are focused on over the years, with a page that continuously evolves to attempt to fully capture the status at any given moment in time.
Reminds me of another idea I've had, to use EM's evolving text feature (scroll to the bottom of the linked page) to do the same thing in a collaborative, public way. Been spending so much time focused on EM and other business needs that we haven't been able to do anything in that area yet...
I'd ask for comments on the concept but right now the comment feature on my blog is out of commision. Email me if you have a comment.

Big outage on EM last night. Ran out of disk space on the database server. Matt usually handles space-related issues but he's in Sevilla and a tad hard-to-reach. Bob and I got it running again at about 12:30AM.
