I've been thinking long and hard and try as I may I was unable to come up with a piece of advice for the Venezuelan opposition. I have a lot of ideas that would help the government, but I couldn't think of anything for the opposition. Finally, I have one: Choose a candidate, do it now! The best idea would be to have some sort of primary, with a run-off between the top two candidates if necessary. Start making the point that there will be elections at some point, make the point that whoever wins your primary will become the next president of Venezuela. Show that the opposition is united behind its candidate. Let the polls show the advantage this candidate has against Chávez. This will force a negotiation. This will stop the talk of division. This will divide the officialism... Do it, do it now! This is a brilliant idea, if I say so myself!
