CFO, 2/14/03: Outsourcing: Buyers Calling the Shots
Customers continue to wield their buying power for all it's worth.
Is it time to renegotiate your outsourcing agreements?
"Pay as you go" may not replace the "one size fits all" outsourcing model for several years. But even if it's not time to buy your IT infrastructure services the same way you buy your heat or electricity, you should be shopping hard, negotiating hard, and benchmarking the terms of your agreements.

CIO, 2/14/03: Centralizing vs. Decentralizing IT
By Jan Duffy
"Contrariwise, if it was so, it might be; and if it were so, it would be; but as it isn't, it ain't. That's logic."
Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll
IT leaders, IT suppliers, and IT-related services providers may well begin to sound like Tweedledee in their confusion about the flavor of the day in IT organizational structure. The IT centralization versus decentralization debate is not a simple one. At least three distinct elements are associated with the debate: control, physical location, and function. But it has been praised for being especially nimble and is the device of choice not just among many high-tech business people but also members of Congress and certain Hollywood stars (Matt Damon and Pamela Anderson among them, according to one report).
