Digitizing History
The British Pathe archive consists of 3,500 hours of historical video footage and over 12 million still photographs documenting the past 75 years, including footage of the Titanic, the D-Day Landings and The Beatles. Using Xserves and Macs, all the video content is currently being encoded into QuickTime files accessible through the British Pathe archive web site. [Feb 26] [Apple Hot News]

iMovieFest turns WWU students into auteurs
It wasn't long ago that only those serious about moviemaking created short films during their college years. Now, however, rapid advances in technology have allowed anyone to pick up a digital video (DV) camcorder, shoot some footage, and edit it on a Mac with Apple's iMovie, which comes pre-loaded on every new computer sold by the company. And with the growing popularity of DVD burners, they can also easily transfer the finished product to a disc playable on most set-top players. It's a far cry from the old days of jerky 8mm films projected on someone's bedsheet and never seen outside a small group of peers. [MacCentral]

Basecamp brings blogging to project management
37signals has introduced Basecamp, a new hosted Web-based project management tool aimed at designers, consultants and freelancers. It's based on Weblog (blog) technology, and it consolidates disparate communications like e-mails, chats, presentations, links, comps and feedback, leveraging integration with Apple's iCal software and the ability to publish Rich (or RDF) Site Summary (RSS) newsfeeds. Novell GroupWise cross-platform client adds OS X
Novell announced recently that the upcoming release of version 6.5 of their GroupWise cross-platform client will support Mac OS X v10.3 "Panther," in addition to Linux. The client, which is part of the GroupWise family of collaboration tools, is currently in an extended Beta program; the company expects to ship it in the next one to two months. [MacCentral]

Wikipedia publishes 500,000 articles in 50 languages
