Tuesday, I had an interview with Net Integration Technologies, maker of Server Appliances, and source of the infamous Human Cannonball co-op posting for a job in fabulous Montreal!
Luckily it was the kind of interview that I find easy to do well at (ie: nothing like Microsoft!): Their guys were kindof geeky and non-threatening, I did most of the talking (about my past projects), and the technical questions were easy.
When it was all over, they offered me job. I guess the picking's were slim that day. (When you interview in late-continuous phase, all the super-stars have already been hired.)
I didn't really know what salary to ask for, having not worked for Canadian dollars in a long time. We agreed on $1000/week, which is I guess equivalent to the $1000US/week I was making in California because living in Canada is much cheaper.
Now my other job lead at the time was with DecisionSoft located in Oxford, UK, where t-jenns and Natalie are headed next term, so I didn't accept right away, needing time to mull over options. Here's was the lowdown:
Category | DecisionSoft | Net Integration | Winner
|
Location | Oxford, UK | Montreal, QC | Edge: DS, but not by much |
Job | XML business interfaces | Whatever I want, possibly including embedded Linux | Edge: NIT
|
Money | Allegedly low | Average | Edge: NIT
|
Chances | Slim | Offered | Edge: NIT
|
So, after a couple of hours I emailed my NIT guy accepting the offer. He didn't realize that I wanted to get a confirmation back so I could stop stressing about everything, so I wasn't totally sure until today.
Also today, my DecisionSoft guy told me they can't accomodate me for Fall ... but we're still doing an email interview ... maybe next term.
