You're right, girls, an update is long overdue but you won't like it because my life has been solid work for the last 2 weeks.

We did deploy our PhoneIntegrator internally, and it was only a few days late. About half the people in the office have started using it for their everyday phone calls, and the other half still sneak into the room where we hid all the "real" phones to make their calls. All incoming calls, however, are answered by the system, but even if someone can't be bothered to install our new software, they will still receive voicemail messages callers leave for them by email. Overall I think things are working well.

On the day we "shipped," we branched the source tree in cvs. This allows us to go ahead with development of the next release while keeping the ability to fix bugs in the deployed version. Later on, cvs will allow us to merge those fixes back into the trunk.

For example, right now I'm making huge changes to the way incoming calls are handled. Instead of having all the voice prompts, touch tone menus, and logic of call transferring compiled into the application, the next version will have a script do all these things at run time. Adding this feature will necessarily break what is working perfectly well now BUT since I'm making all my changes in the trunk, the copy of the source code as we shipped (the branch) is unchanged. I can be tearing a class to shreds in the trunk in one window, then turn around and redeploy the branch version with a tiny one line fix to that very same class in another window.

But, like I said, I haven't done much for the last while except work. Lately things have gotten a bit out of hand -- I get to work at around 2pm and leave at around 5am. It's annoying because there's nothing open for dinner in the middle of the night.

Oh yeah -- There's less than one month left of work in this term. I hope I can manage to get something done to put on the ol' resume!
