If US troops take large numbers of causalities then US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld will be the one blamed as he is reported to have repeatedly ordered and defended cuts in the number of US troops used in the invasion of Iraq.

This weekend I’m mainly doing some last minute reading, looking for science fiction or fantasy books to nominate for this year’s Hugo Awards. With time for maybe one more book, I've read:

  •  The Visitor – Sheri S. Tepper - post apocalypse future, interesting ideas but ending is weak
  •  Bones of the Earth – Michael Swanwich - time travel and dinosaurs with a lost in time subplot that wasn’t needed
  • Chindi – Jack McDevitt - fun space exploration and discovery but Clarke did better years ago
