David Reed discusses Howard Coble's editorial in rebuttal to Ed Cone. He sees contradictions and double-talk. It's interesting, because of his chairmanship of the key House subcommittee overseeing the Internet, Coble is not only accountable to the voters of North Carolina, the citizens of the United States have a special interest in his opinions and thought process. Reed says something that's been much on my mind, something I'd love to hear Coble comment on. "Copyright holders can sue under the existing laws. Why create new rights of poorly restrained vigilantism?" [Scripting News]

As we experience a massive downturn in the technology sector, I am continually surprised by the inability of technologists to equate their economic health and well being to what congress and the President are doing to limit, truncate, and abort technological progress in this country. Sure, all the other issues are interesting, but if you are unemployed or about to be because the technology industry is in a DEPRESSION, don't let the politicians distract you with the usually panoply of hot button issues that change little, but always offer an infamed debate.
Vote your pocket book. [John Robb's Radio Weblog]
