More Sudan dyes in food detected

In its March issue the German consumer magazine "ÖkoTest" reports the discovery of Sudan I (Colour Index 12055) in several coloured pasta breeds and sauces. Sudan dye contents ranged from 1.3 to 13,431 μg/kg. Sudan I is usually added to Diesel gasoline and shoe polishs, but should be avoided in food. We ran a short discourse on Sudan dyes earlier this year.
