Annan Rejects Jenin Mission Delay. Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Tuesday refused Israel's demand to delay and change a U.N. fact-finding mission to the war-ravaged Jenin refugee camp, directing its members to arrive in the Mideast by Saturday. [AP World News]
Well done Kofi! Watch out, though: if you're seen as being too independent and don't 'consult' enough, George Bush will come gunning for you. Always remember (for some unknown reason lost in the mists of time) the United States is Israel's most influential supporter.

Annan Picks Team to Examine Camp Attacked by Israel. Martti Ahtisaari, the former president of Finland, will lead an effort to look into Israel's military assault on the Palestinian refugee camp in Jenin. By John Kifner. [New York Times: International]
Israel Delays U.N. Jenin Mission. Israel has delayed the arrival of a U.N. fact-finding mission to check Israel's military offensive in the Jenin refugee camp earlier this month, an Israeli official said Tuesday. [AP World News]
So the Israeli 'green light' which led to setting up the UN mission, as feared, is subject to Israel's own interpretation of what the UN team can and cannot do. Typical! By the time they get to Jenin anyway, there'll be little or no evidence remaining -- apart, of course, from devastation and piles of rubble.
