Dan Shafer just posted a short piece about what the OS X wxPython Mac port means to him.

wxPython Mac is Alive!

The first binary beta build of wxPython Mac for OS X is available. This is an OS X port of wxPython. wxPython is a cross-platform GUI toolkit for the Python programming language that already works on Windows and Linux.

There are still some bugs and display issues with the OS X port, so this should be considered a preview of better things to come, but it is pretty exciting to have a powerful toolkit working on the major desktop OS platforms (Windows, Linux, OS X) with Python.

MachoPython is the Unix version of Python ported to OS X. The MacPython (Mac classic OS) and MachoPython builds have not been integrated yet. You can find out more about MacPython and MachoPython on the pythonmac-sig mailing list.

If you want to try PythonCard with the wxPython Mac build, then get the PythonCardPrototype-0.6.5.tar.gz file. Using the Terminal, cd to the directory you uncompressed the file in and run distutils by typing:

python setup.py install
