So let me write about a few things that happened in 2003.
- We went to Yosemite in May. We stayed in a nice lodge in MiWuk village that reminded me of the cabin my family USED to own up near Sonora pass. (Pictures of our trip are here look for the Spring 2003 (Yosemite) category.) We also checked out Columbia state park, and a cavern near Sonora, CA that was deep, but not wide.
- At Apple this year, I wrote a developer sample code application, which demonstrates Apple's Inkwell customization API. Inkwell is the handwriting recognition system that first debuted on the Newton. Unfortunately, you need a tablet to really take advantage of it. Fortunately for me, my college buddy and long time friend Erik GAVE me his large wacom tablet, the same kind and size of tablet I've made a pilgrimage to see at Macworld every year, and denied myself the indulgence of buying. Thanks Erik!
- This year I also got drafted into working on a CGI program for Hiro K, another college friend. Hiro and I are the dynamic duo that make up the struggling small business venture called New Wave Exchange. The CGI, however, was for Hiro's family business in Japan. The principle lead in developing the CGI was Robert A., but I wound up writing an html parser that plays a significant role in the function of the CGI. I used my portion of the proceeds to pay off my huge ISP debt owed to the same Robert, who sent me bills, but never forced me to pay =). After the CGI was finished, we later did some more work to get it to work with imode, the popular cell phone / web service in Japan. To work with imode, the web pages must conform to the CHTML specification.
- Mary C. from Taiwan came to visit the Bay Area. She brought Oyang with her, who I met in Taiwan. Mary, Oyang and family, and other friends, were very nice to me when I visited Taiwan back in 1995, and pretty much made sure I was busy every day of my 1 week stay there. There are some pictures of Mary & family on the same site with the Yosemite pix.
- Finally, we bought a new house in West San Jose, close to Cupertino. Our kids can now attend the famed Cupertino schools, and also both Grace and I are just a few minutes drive from work. If you haven't got my updated contact info yet, ask me!.
that's all I can think of at the moment!
