Speaking of Islamic radicals, there was a very amusing article in a recent issue of the local independent newspaper, "The Metro", about a guy who visited Afghanistan, and wound up a terrorist suspect on his way back home. The portrait he paints of F.B.I. agents seems to confirm what Aukai Collins describes in the book "My Jihad" which is also listed in my Books page. Incidentally, I read an article found via MacInTouch the other day which says Security Experts at the F.B.I. use Macintosh computers running OSX, due to their versatility and better "out of the box" security, although they still issue Windows laptops for field work. (So I guess not all F.B.I. agents are as silly as those described in the references above.)

 | One of the books I have in my Books page, is "Them: Adventures With Extremists" by Jon Ronson. The book is a light read, and very funny as well as informative. You can get a feel for the style by listening to this audio interview with Jon Ronson that is in the NPR archive for show Fresh Aire. In this interview, Ronson describes his encounters with an Islamic radical living in London. If you have RealAudio player, you should listen to it! |
