QUOTE OF THE DAY "Loyalty to petrified opinion never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul." - - Mark Twain RHINO HERE: Interesting column in Monday's Chicago Sun Times written by NOT my favorite political pundit, Robert Novak, entitled, "GOP Senators On The Warpath". It describes a closed door gathering of Republican senators held last Wednesday at the Library of Congress. White House chief of staff Andrew Card stood to hear grievances from shrub's Senate base who apparently feel they've been ignored & insulted by the shrub gang concerning the war preparations, especially Rumsfeld, whose behavior toward the GOP'ers was described as dismissive, barely civil, bordering on rude, with no interest in the Senators' opinions other than to get the money he needs. Rummie rude? As Gomer Pyle says, "Surprise! Surprise!" See the article at: http://www.suntimes.com/output/novak/cst-edt-novak13.html FAIR (Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting) reports that Police in Genoa, Italy admitted to having planted two Molotov cocktails in a school serving as dormitory for globalization activists in an attempt to justify police brutality during protests at the July 2001 G8 Summit. In searches of the Nexis database, FAIR has been unable to find a single mention of this development in any major U.S. newspapers or magazines, national television news shows or wire service stories. The U.S. media covering up for the G8 Summit? "Surprise! Surprise!" Full story at: http://www.fair.org/activism/genoa-update.html The London Guardian had a lengthy article comparing the U.S. "liberal media" of the Nixon-Woodward-Deep Throat days to the current situation where if there's a Watergate style scandal lurking in the White House, the story surely wont be broken by anyone in the major media, but instead, probably by political webloggers. Trent Lott says, "Shazam! The bloggers got me." Story at: http://media.guardian.co.uk/mediaguardian/story/0,7558,873395,00.html MoveOn PAC's "Let the Inspections Work" petition, featured in last Thursday's Rhinos Blog now has over 171,000 signatures, aiming for 200,000 by the end of the day Wednesday. They've made it easy to take action if you haven't done it yet. 5 minutes. Just go to: http://www.moveon.org/winwithoutwar Their plan is to have more than 7,000 MoveOn members meeting with more than 500 U.S. Senate & House offices Next Tuesday, January 21st, delivering printouts of the petition, making sure our elected officials know that Americans are opposed to another war on Iraq. Beginning this Thursday, a hard-hitting TV ad will air in 13 major cities, reinforcing the "Let the Inspections Work" message. Also on Thursday, MoveOn members in these cities will hold press conferences their story will break out in the national media later this week. The U.N inspection team report is due Sunday, January 27th. That Monday is seen as the White House's likely go/no-go decision date. shrub's State of the Union address is the following night. Now's the time. Again, to sign the petition, go to: http://www.moveon.org/winwithoutwar TODAY'S BOTTOM LINE ARTICLE offers a viable alternative to war on Iraq. It's written by Jonathan Granoff (jgg786@aol.com), president of Global Security Institute (http://www.gsinstitute.org), & co-chair of the American Bar Association Committee on Arms Control & National Security.
