QUOTE OF THE DAY "Imagine there's no countries. It isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for.And no religion too. Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope some day you'll join us and the world will be as one." - - John Lennon RHINO HERE: So I'll be the first to admit it. shrub gave a hell of a speech. Slick enough to convince most of the folks in Peoria, I'm guessin'. But was it enough to convince General Schwartzkoff? The Washington Post reported yesterday that Stromin' Norman, who led the 1991 Desert Storm War, says he's not convinced a war with Iraq is necessary, he thinks continuing with inspections is the way to go, he's worried about the cockiness of the shrub war plan, & don't even get him going about Rummie Rumsfeld. "... Gen. Schwarzkopf Is Skeptical About U.S. Action in Iraq" http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A52450-2003Jan27.html Not bein from anywhere around Peoria, I had a few problems with shrub's speech. Like I never heard the words, "collateral damage". He did assure us whatever he's going to loose on Iraq, that "the innocents" will be spared. Sounds like he hasn't been listening to his Air Force advisors. Witness the following article from ABC News: "Collateral Chaos? Air Force Report Expects Numerous Civilian Deaths..." http://www.abcnews.go.com/sections/us/DailyNews/ITeamInsider.html I didn't hear him speak about the possibilty of using mass graves for U.S. GIs should their dead bodies be contaminated by chemical or biological weapons. Did I miss that? Check out the artricle from The Denver Post: "Pentagon eyes mass graves - Option would fight contamination after bioterror deaths" http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0%2C1413%2C36%25257E6439%25257E1132683%2C00.html He did however mention those aluminum tubes that he says Saddam has that are meant to be used in Iraq's nuclear weapons program. Problem is both the U.N. weapons inspectors & The International Atomic Energy Agency have already stated those tubes could not possibly be strong enough to be used for that purpose. Witness the following Washington Post article: "U.S. Claim on Iraqi Nuclear Program Is Called Into Question" http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A35360-2003Jan23.html Did anyone hear him mention his bogus tax cut plan that takes care of everyone making $800,000 a year & more but does zip for the bottom 90% of wage earners? I didn't. See Citizens For Tax Justice article: "Bush 2003 Tax Plan a Big Fat Zero for a Third of Nation's Taxpayers" http://www.ctj.org/html/gwb0103.htm I'm curious if any of the networks covered the New York Emergency Services employees (Fire Fighters & Cops) who were supposed to be protesting during the speech concerning shrub's refusal to release funds to study the health of Ground Zero workers? The N.Y. Daily News reports: "N.Y. firefighters to protest for aid at Bush speech" http://www.centredaily.com/mld/centredaily/news/5035960.htm Does Rhino sound bitter? I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the puppet leader of the slickest coup d'etat in modern times should twist the truth & lie while sounding sincere. UGG! Okay. Now I get to wash the sarcasm away and once again talk about people whose work actually helps the truly downtrodden & seeks to create a world based on love & compassion, instead of greed & lies. I'm hoping & assuming the information I've provided the last 2 days regarding the work of Amnesty International has been an inspiration. Please understand that an organization that works in 160 countries powered by hundreds of thousands of caring individuals like you & I cannot be explained in a couple 8" x 11" blog pages. So once again, I offer more opportunities to join with Amnesty's vision of a world without rape, torture or political murders. AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL "HUMAN RIGHTS ACTION CENTER" Amnesty International USA maintains an internet based "Human Rights Action Center" where 230,000 online activists respond when they receive special email alerts. After an excerpt & link to the campaign description is an excerpt of transcripts of an interview with Yoko Ono about the Imagine Campaign. You can also download a RealPlayer file of Yoko speaking, woven together with children from around the world singing the song, at: http://www.amnestyusa.org/imagine/ "The Imagine Campaign" This year, Amnesty International faces a major challenge: how best to promote and protect human rights at the start of the 21st century and in light of current world events. As the world's largest grassroots human rights organization, Amnesty International plans to lead the way by offering a message of hope and humanity for all, through one of the largest human rights education and media campaigns in its 40-year history. To this end, Amnesty International has generously been granted rights to the John Lennon song Imagine by Yoko Ono Lennon to use as the centerpiece of its campaign. Over the years, music has played a vital role in uniting people from diverse backgrounds and helping convey Amnesty's mission - but no song has the power to more eloquently capture the spirit of our message of human rights and dignity for all than "Imagine."... On the eve of the our Imagine Campaign rollout, we sat down to talk with Yoko Ono about the Imagine song, her thoughts on the world and working for peace. Q: So why was Imagine written? YOKO: John wrote it, with a very deep love for the human race and a concern for its future. Q: Do you think it's more relevant today than it was at the time it was written? YOKO: Well, it's getting relevant, isn't it? But it was always relevant and I hope that one day we don't have to sing it anymore. It's a song that is really concerned about the betterment of the world and I think it's effective. Q: Do you think that things have maybe escalated to a worse place than at the time when it was written? YOKO: I wouldn't say it that it's in a worse place. I think this is the big confrontation. And we really have to see that and confront it and do something to make it better.
