WEB SITE OF THE WEEK: Cost Of The War In Iraq http://www.costofwar.com RHINO HERE: It's been a tough week for the Rhino. I've lost two friends; one to cancer, & one in the accident in Santa Monica in which an elderly man crashed into a crowded farmers' market. My friend Michael Douglas was in his early 50's, living a great life on the North coast of the northernmost Hawaiian island. He exercised, ate right, breathed clean Pacific Ocean air, laughed, played music, read Rhino's Blog & appreciated dharma combat.. In every way I could think of, Michael was living the healthiest of lifestyles. Yet, he was struck by a brain tumor & passed away in a matter of weeks. His wife, Kima & all his friends will miss him dearly. Michael was an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota. My friend, Lynne Weaver was a proud Mom, loving wife, beloved daughter & cherished friend of countless people in a variety of circles in both the entertainment, & the American Indian communities of Southern California. She was one of 8 people who lost their lives in the framers market accident. Lynne was active in women's organizations including Women In Film & Women Of Los Angeles. She also contributed time & energy to Native American causes. A regular reader since the inception of Rhino's Blog, Lynne was of Cherokee descent. She'll be sorely missed by her family & friends. Seems we never know what's next. Hug the loved ones. Every day is a gift. That's why they call it the present.

Here's one on the separation of church & state, a concept Pat Robertson can't get his aura around. He's rallying his followers to pray away several of the US Supreme Court Justices who voted in favor of the recent 6-3 vote decriminalizing sodomy. Robertson says they're asking for the Lord to convince the Justices to resign, cause the good reverend would never pray for a Justice to die, in order to have a more right wing court,, would he? Or would any of his followers? Cause that wouldn't be prayer, right? That would be witching. Broadcaster Pat Robertson calls for retirement of justices (AP), Monday, July 14, 2003 Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson urged his nationwide audience Monday to pray for God to remove three justices from the Supreme Court so they could be replaced by conservatives... THE MADE-FOR-TELEVISION PRESIDENT by Jim Hightower, JimHightower.com, 6/20/2003 Let's go to Tinseltown where one of Hollywood's fantasy-makers has been hard at work on a thrilling new action flick - an explosive, two-hour, made-for-television movie coming to you this fall via the "Showtime" network. Viewers will be mesmerized, titillated, and inspired by the steely-eyed resolve and non-stop heroics of this film's central character, who's presented as a combination of Harrison Ford and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The setting for this drama is September 11 - the day of the terrorist attacks on America - and our hero is none other than that paragon of presidential performance art: George W. Bush! Believe it or not, this is a movie attempting to celebrate George's actions on that day - a time that was not exactly his finest hour. You might recall that George went AWOL for several hours on September 11. He was supposed to be returning to Washington on Air Force One the morning of the attacks, but instead diverted off to New Orleans for a while, then took off for Nebraska. America was under attack... but, eerily, America's president was missing. No problem - Hollywood can simply re-make history. So Karl Rove, Bush's master manipulator, has teamed up with a right-wing Hollywood producer named Lionel Chetwynd to script a heroic version of George's flight from duty, calling the movie: "The Big Dance."...
