OPML outliner for Windows

Rick Klau had success in his search for an outliner with OPML support for his Palm handheld. I'm happy for him, but I'm looking for something so much easier. I just want one for Windows! Yes, I know Radio does that. But I'd like a standalone, freeware/open source outliner that supports OPML. Does such a beast exist? I want this piece so that non-radio users could edit an opml file that would later be rendered for the web. I've found this one, but it requires installing python and a bunch of other stuff. Boy is it a pain. I may get it working some time soon, but I can't imagine any regular user doing so.

Missing West Wing

"New characters enter left, and old ones exit right. We are in awe. Simply put, the season finale of The West Wing was the best single hour of television ever." [Scripting News]

This has got to be one of the worst things about living in Indonesia, NO WEST WING! (okay, so I miss my extended family too). What I wouldn't give for someone to send us a video with the episodes since we left (Jan 7, 2002). So, where are all the nice people on the net with DVRs (TIVOs, etc.) that might have them sitting on the hard drive????

News via the grapevine

I guess I have a unique view on the Thomas Friedman article in the NY Times. He complains that the third world believes everything they read on the Internet and his example is Indonesia, where I choose to live. His observation is correct and it is a real issue, not simply to be fobbed off as John and Dave seem want to do. What Friedman doesn't explain (maybe he doesn't even understand) is that this is simply an extension of the way that news travels in Indonesia. Gossip, innuendo and pure lies are traded on even in the major publications in Indonesian. What's worse is that many of the hundreds of new publications that have sprung up since Suharto stepped down (and media regulations were relaxed) are simply Indonesian versions of "The National Enquirer." But they are even nastier and people believe them. This isn't unique to the Internet. However, it is compounded by the internet. The net has very low penetration in Indonesia (1-2% of the population, not 5% that Friedman states). The problem will be much worse as net penetration increases, however it is a problem that can only be solved via transformation of the Indonesian culture. It isn't the responsibility of the internet community to solve, but we may be able to help. More on that later.
