Paolo put Radio on his iPod.  Funny, this morning I came to same conclusion.  I want all of my most useful data on a portable drive.&nb

sp; That includes my Radio files, my media files, my documents, etc.  Nice. [John Robb's Radio Weblog]

>Applauds Paolo

Two years ago I bought a Zip 250 drive for similar reasons, I wanted something that was small and portable that would hold all my files on it. Being me I also wanted something that would hold my "identity" on it as well, in terms of my favorites for the internet, email back up etc.

No such animal existed, then. Now, with an iPod you can do it, as I imagine you could with a Pocket PC that had a microdrive in a CF slot. Very cool stuff, especially when taken to this level as Paolo has done.

The next step: Have that firewire device hook up to anything at all, and instantly know what to do with your data, as it looks for that drive in order to find out who is using it. Modular workstations in a library that users can "instantly upgrade" in order to have it carry on their research. I am reminded of the "business cards" from Snow Crash for some reason. Hook this into the Grid Computing effort that Sony is up to, and you'll have a personal portable storage network that is limited only by the number of pockets you have available.

Busy day today, the weekly journal will be up by COB (Midnight) and I need to run out to do some banking as well as some last minute business stuff.

A Word Map for Wonderland? Curiouser and Curiouser.

A new Web site turns literary classics into interactive maps in which the relationships between words are explored. By Matthew Mirapaul. [New York Times: Technology]

An interesting way to index information. Correction, a beautiful way to index information. Very, very cool stuff. I've got it spooling through Alice in Wonderland now with Fea Kaluti playing in the background. Incredible.

Spin it out: Instead of words, set this to look at the relationship of a string: A name, a SSN, and drivers licence number. Hook into all the data thtat you can get on someone (or something) and see thier relationships.

PCs: Redefining "entertainment".

Microsoft wants its Freestyle software to act as the nerve center of home entertainment. But with doubt over whether consumers are ready, acceptance could be elusive, analysts say. [CNET News.com]

And now you know what Freestyle is. :)

WD caches up 80 gig HDD.

Caviar for the masses [The Register]

Get a couple of these, throw them in firewire enclosures, and hook them up to a Freestyle PC or other PC that has PVR capabilites and you have the first part of your home broadcasting/personalized TV channel solution in place.
