TV's Future: Wide, Thin and Bright.

Recently, Sharp, Samsung and Panasonic unveiled a new category of expensive but breathtaking wide-screen sets: liquid crystal display flat panels. By David Pogue. [New York Times: Technology]

Seen it need it want it. I was in Best Buy today, teasing myself, and looking at the 43" Plasma display they had set up. Dead sexy unit there. I'd love to have a display that size set up as the back plane of my desk, with a pari of smaller LCD monitor built into the desktop that I could look down on as a secondary display. Having that huge display running at say 3200 X 2400, or whatever the equivalent would be for the 16 x 9 aspect ratio (hey, I've been up since 8:00 AM forgive me if I don't want to do the math right now. ) I would need to have SVG icons that scaled based on the size of the display they were on, but I would also never need anything bigger.

(snicker) Yeah right.

Chemical matching of bullets fatally flawed.

Crime scene slugs are frequently linked to suspects using trace element analysis -new research shows this is impossible [New Scientist]

This is bad news. Very bad news. If this holds true, there are many, many people who are in jail who do not deserve to be. Unfortunately, there are also many people who are in jail who will be set free based on bullet matching evidence being thrown out.
