Another misperception of mine has just been shattered. When learning XML I thought I had learned that DTD's were the 'one-true-way' to define an XML format but that Schema were on the way and would replace DTD's as the 'one-true-way'. (Note to self - go back and question all personal beliefs that include the phrase 'one-true-way'.) Apparently this is far from how things work as highlighted by: XML and the IETF: Making the case for RELAX NG
In an effort to make desktop news aggregators more visible in the referrer logs Dave Winer has implemented a format for a referrer entry. Ben Hammersley has backtracked the genesis of the idea on his site. This is a good idea and I will be implementing this in RC4, Morbus Iff is already ahead of me and is implementing it for AmphetaDesk.
A good discussion is taking place in RSS-DEV about XML and charsets and encoding. One of the documents referenced today was Character Set Considered Harmful, which has a really good explaination of the issues and terminology, but then again I'm a math guy and YMMV.
