Weird Product Unit Meeting (con't)
What was it? An all-day GPS follow-the-clues race. We divided into teams of 10 people in two cars each and were given a set of 2-way radios and GPS device per team. Then they gave us initial coordinates and told us to get going. There ended up being 10 stops along the way and coordinates for the next stop, a clue, and a number at each stop. It turned out that if you put the numbers together they formed a phone number that you then called for directions on how to get to the final destination (our product unit manager's house) for lunch.
This was the first time I can remember our entire product group getting together to do a single activity (even our day to day work seems to be divided along feature team lines with some teams never interacting with others). I heard comments from people on the team ranging from outright hatred of the day to expressions of enjoyment. Myself? I pretty much enjoyed it. I thought it was cool that management tried to do something together with the whole team. I wonder what the next product unit meeting will be like?
