activeRenderer's Release Schedule

I've been asked several times when I would finally release a first version of the activeRenderer tool. I guess this whole thread must be kind of overextending.

The short answer is: as soon as possible, I'm already 2 weeks late on s l a m 's schedule.

The last steps before the release are :

  • Providing version control to the tool's installation routine, to handle updates in the css and javascript external files gracefully.
  • Developing and testing the tool's auto-update feature, with eVector's brand new tool updating service.

So hopefully, the activeRenderer saga will be over sometimes next week.

Instant Ouline Instant Rendering !

This time, it's for real. With Andre's help, I've added a little code to the activeRendererSuite, in the callbacks.fileMenu.save script.

Now every time I save a Radio outline in my instantOutliner folder, or anywhere below the gems folder, an additional copy of the outline is saved in the outlines folder, and an HTML rendered copy is upstreamed immediately.

A note to Radio developers: neither Andre nor I could tap into the user.saveWindow callback, which I first tried to use remembering an advice Jake gave me some time ago.

The system.callbacks.saveWindow script does not seem to be called by the Frontier kernel anymore in my 8.0.7 version of MacOS X based Radio.

Multi-Author Weblogging

UserLand is quietly releasing the first version of a Multi-Author Weblog Tool.

A multi-authored weblog has posts that appear on the home page which are written by a group of people, instead of by a single author.
This is great news, since my next project for s l a m, after outline and code rendering, was to implement precisely this feature.

By the time i'm ready to launch s l a m, the tool will probably be out of beta. How cooler could this get :-)
