Signs I'm getting older
- Today was/is my 38th birthday. I am now twice as old as most college students. Too bad I live near a college town, otherwise it wouldn't matter much. I can't go into town without seeing people who make me feel old.
- A cute blond at Walmart made a comment about something I was buying
(A cheesecake sampler) and it didn't even occur to me that it was a potential conversation starter until I was half way home. Not that I'm good at such things in the first place but that was a definite lost opportunity that comes with age.
Though I'm sure it was just Walmart checkout training technique #77 - 'Ask the customer something friendly about what they are buying without being too friendly and they'll come back for more."
What am I going to do when I have my mid-life crisis in a couple years ? Hide under my desk ?
- I wasn't too upset at spending my birthday by myself (I did get several cards and the traditional "Happy Birthday" phone serenade from my daughter and ex-wife).
- I like watching C-SPAN and listening to NPR. Yikes!
- I'm almost looking forward to my next high school reunion, assuming the folks who plan it bother to send me info on it, unlike the 10th reunion where I heard about it from someone else who DID get a flyer on it (And a note listing me as 'address unknown' even though my parents had lived in the same house since I was in 3rd grade.) but I'm not sure I actually would go. I'm just curious and want to do SOMETHING to celebrate 20+ years of freedom from High School.
