Hunting for cars... I'm looking to add a second car to my stable in the late spring, a 1995-1996 BMW 5 series (aka an E34). The models those two years ? 525i (6 cylinder engine) 530i (8 cylinder engine) 540i (8 cylinder engine) Things to watch out for: The 94-95 V8's in those cars had bad engines (alloy problems), so getting one would require making sure it has had the engine replaced. The 525i has the same power as the 530i, just in a tried and true 6 cylinder engine so.... not really much to choose between them. The 540i would be more expensive to maintain from the look of things. Mileage - most of these in my price range seem to be at the age ( 100K miles) where they need several thousand dollars of suspension work. Not many 5 speeds out there for some reason. If I wanted an automatic... I could get one today. Tires - I'll need a new set of snow tires. Color - I prefer dark colored cars, though I saw a nice 530i at the garage on Tuesday that was a blue grey that looked nice... Money - below $15K preferred (it's a budget thing) I'm sure I'll think of more... 3:05:10 PM    Notes [] Another cold day in the woods.... The engine in the buggy has a leaky seal some where up front. Only leaks (oil) when it gets really cold and hasn't been driven for a couple days. Like Tuesday. But I didn't notice an oil leak at lunch today when I took a trip to the post office.... After 227,000+ miles it's getting a bit tired... until this winter it hadn't leaked in all the time I've had it.... now it leaks oil and occassionally coolant (on a cold day with the heater turned all the way up.) There are leak theories but no actual culprit yet.... 2:30:40 PM    Notes []
