Tony Rotton, aka Blak Twang, interviewed on Radio4's Today programme this morning, argued that hiphop needs to be positive, and speak of love and peace as well as struggle, but noted that music largely reflects what is happening in the culture around it.

Radio 1 DJs Iyare and Trevor Nelson are more indignant in their response to Culture Minister Kim Howells' comments that the deaths of two teenagers in Birmingham are "symptomatic" of developments in rap and garage music which glorify gun culture and violence. Howells asks people to stand up to idiot macho rappers.

But everyone is agreed that the UK's growing gun culture is a terrifying social problem.
