Dean Goodmanson's reminds us of the simple things in life: Like remember to back-up your hard drive!
I just returned from my seminar in applied psychology here at the college. We're reading Charting Your Course (Coleman and Anderson, 1998; Notre Dame Press) which lead to a discussion of values...what really matters to you...values serve as guideposts in daily life. We only came up with a few...honesty, respect for others, and the importance of connection with others. We couldn't agree on anything...is honesty a good thing? Would you be honest with a friend even if it leads to hurt feelings? The class rocked and rolled, and split down the middle on most issues.
When the class ended there was a shouting match about whether or not it was immoral to shop at Walmart.
You gotta love college students.

Speaking of values, check out the new film about Holocaust and Communist prison camp survivor Jann Weiner. It is chock full of important insights about life.
