I hear so often from people that the invasion of Iraq has had no successes, only failures. It is like they are looking at the flypaper, and using that to judge how many flys there are in the room. It took 8 years to establish democracy in germany after WW2, and now they are a strong economic trading partner. A partner we would not want to do without. It took even longer to establish a real democracy in Japan. Imagine, this was a part of the world that had never knew a free press, or any type of election. Today it is a vibrant democracy, and a economic powerhouse.
If democracy takes hold in Iraq, and spreads through the region, Islamic terror will be history. The people in that part of the world will embrace freedom, and they need only the opportunity.
The US did not go to Iraq to do anything but free it's people. Not for selfless reasons, but because it is a way to stop Islamo Fascists. Stop them from what? Stop them from from sponsoring terrorism, or maybe the problem is not state sponsored terrorism, it’s terrorism sponsored states.
Gadhafi's Son: Bush Plan Should Be Backed Guardian - The son of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi said Wednesday Arab countries should support President Bush's campaign to promote democracy in the Middle East.
Numerous Arab governments have rejected Bush's democracy initiative, notably Egypt's and Saudi Arabia's, as an imposition unsuited to Arab culture and traditions.
"Instead of shouting and criticizing the American initiative, you have to bring democracy to your countries, and then there will be no need to fear America or your people,'' said Seif al-Islam Gadhafi. "The Arabs should either change or change will be imposed on them from outside.''
