Hamas running in Palestinian elections Jerusalem Post - Hamas announced on Saturday that it will participate in the first municipal elections to be held in the West Bank and Gaza Strip since 1976.
Hamas spokesman Sami Zuhari said his movement views the elections, scheduled to begin in December, as a preface for the implementation of general reforms in the Palestinian Authority.
"Elections are the legitimate right of all citizens on condition that they are held in a democratic atmosphere and away from corruption," Zuhari added. He urged all Hamas members to register to vote.
You have to define "democratic atmosphere and corruption". For example were the "elections" held by Saddam done in a "democratic atmosphere and away from corruption"?
Are these elections going to be true secret ballot? I doubt it.
