Cisco, Microsoft to secure networks Boston Herald - Their biggest clients hit hard by viruses, worms and other attacks, Microsoft Corp. and Cisco Systems Inc. said Monday that they plan to work together to help their corporate customers fight back. Each is rolling out a system aimed at helping customers better protect corporate computer networks. By 2007, when Microsoft releases the next version of its Windows server software, the companies plan to make those systems compatible. That would allow corporations to better secure Microsoft's Windows software and Cisco's network infrastructure in one sweep, saving time and money.

Sony aims to make DVD transfers effortless Canada.com, Canada - It's the latest - and what Sony believes is the best - effort to get you to do away with the hordes of video tapes most of us have lying around the house.
DVD Direct is a device that lets you transfer your home videos from camcorders or tapes to DVD's - without using a computer.
In addition to using it as a stand-alone device, you can burn your discs through a computer-- with or without editing them first.
Sony's Robert DeMoulin says the device is designed to make burning DVD's effortless.
You just attach the cable from your video source to the device and hit the play-record buttons - and away you go.
The product also includes DVD authoring software for use with your computer.
The DVD Direct is due in stores next month - just in time for the holiday buying season.
