Delinquent caps it off
Herald Sun -  A juvenile delinquent who terrorised his neighbours with a chainsaw was banned yesterday from wearing a cap or hooded sweatshirt for five years.

Authorities slapped the Anti-Social Behaviour Order on Dale Carroll, 16, of Manchester, after he was caught on a video surveillance camera taking a chainsaw to a metal post.

Carroll then threatened a passing cyclist with the saw.

He also threw fireworks at cyclists and pulled one from a bike and threatened him with an axe. He drove a car on to a pavement and down some steps.

It was the first time an Anti-Social Behaviour Order, a measure introduced to curb rising juvenile delinquency, had been used in such a manner.

Carroll was also ordered not to associate in public with more than two people except for family members, or use a chainsaw, saw or fireworks.

A violation of the order could lead to a jail term of up to five years.

Netscape 8.0 interferes with operation of Internet Explorer
Earthtimes.org - Microsoft has confirmed speculations that the new Netscape 8.0 could disable Internet Explorer and restrict it from displaying XML-files.

David Massy, a senior Microsoft program manager, in his web log, has written that users who have Netscape 8.0 and use Internet Explorer to visit an XML file or XML file with an XSLT transformation would see a blank page displayed instead of the original content on the page.

Pushing dual-core PCs beyond the desktop
ZDNet - The launch on Thursday of Intel's Pentium D processor sparked debate among computer makers about what shape next-generation PCs will take.

Gerald Holzhammer, a vice president with Intel's digital home group, said PC makers could use the new dual-core Pentium chips to dream up new forms and functions beyond the standard tower design.

"I won't say it is as exciting as the Internet was about 10 years ago, but it comes pretty close," Holzhammer said during a launch event Thursday.

Some Viagra users report blindness-Pfizer
Reuters - U.S. health regulators said on Friday they have received more than 40 reports of a type of blindness in men taking impotence drugs, mostly involving Pfizer Inc.'s  Viagra, but have not determined if the medicines were responsible.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it has received about 38 reports of the rare condition among Viagra users, four reports among users of Eli Lilly and Co.'s  Cialis and one report in a man who took Levitra, made by GlaxoSmithKline Plc .

More than 23 million men worldwide have taken Viagra over the past seven years, Pfizer said. Reports are extremely rare of the condition known as non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), the company said. NAION can cause permanent vision loss.
