Microsoft Corp.'s new Zune music player grabbed 9 percent of the U.S. digital music player market in its first week of sales, taking the No. 2 spot from SanDisk Corp.'s Sansa, market researcher NPD Group said on Wednesday.
Microsoft also had a 13 percent dollar share of the U.S. portable digital player market in the week ending Nov. 18, NPD said in its weekly survey of music player sales.
Apple Computer Corp. , which ushered in the digital media player rage with its iPod player in 2001, remained the market leader with 63 percent unit share and 72.5 percent dollar share, NPD said.
