Political Reporting Resources

This is one of many files of bookmarks I've collected for journalism students, professional journalists -- and interested citizens with weblogs. This list includes organizations and sources of election-coverage advice, rather than actual "election news" from news organizations. I can't promise the links -- or sites -- are all up to date, but I hope you find some of them helpful!

(This copy is also an experiment in exporting data from URL Manager Pro to my Radio weblog. If the page has problems, the link on the longer title at the top of the page should go to an identical list in standard HTML.)

Investigative Reporting Weblog

The Investigative Reporters and Editors website's Extra! Extra! page is updated daily with accounts from all over the country, most showing serious commitments of newspapers' resources. In addition to their daily blog appearance, the items can be retrieved by category, including more than a dozen stories baced on Campaign Finance investigations this summer.

Other recent topics include six-day, 35-story series on growth of the Hispanic population in a Tennessee city, or a five-part Raleigh News & Observer series on a particularly deadly stretch of highway.

The IRE weblog's archives are keyword-searchable, and should be a great brainstorming resource for reporters in other states looking for new ideas. Some IRE material is for members only, and contributing to the organization helps fund its training programs, online resources and other projects. However, the Extra Extra! archives are open to the public -- perhaps they'll inspire some webloggers to dig deeper. For news-aggregator users, the Extra! Extra! page also has its own RSS feed.
