Burning Man in the Media Well, after 5 years of going to Burning Man, my parents are suddenly very curious about the festival. Definitely a sign of increased media coverage. Weird. My mother's been sending me all these links to Burning Man stories on NPR and CNN. From the report: "Did you see any naked people?" (Gasp) Was it me, or were there more gawkers than ever this year?!!! I covered Burning Man for Pacifica Network News my first year in '99 (as a young starry-eyed reporter). Check it out! 10:28:10 PM comment [] ![]() |

Girls Gone Wild in the Desert, $29.95 Speaking of which, i just read a shocking article on cnn about a porn company that's been selling videos of burning man on their site. from the article: O'Brien himself was the cameraman at Burning Man in 1997 and 1998, according to court documents, but for three years afterward, the tapes were purchased from freelancers, who make up to $1,500 for their raw footage, according to the "Jobs" portion of the Web site. Errrrr. from another cnn article: Reflecting the Burning Man's counterculture, techno-edge roots, most of the camps poked fun at organized religion, and many tend toward more sensual diversions often involving body paint or bondage. i don't know about you but i didn't see any popes tied up. did you? wow, now that i'm looking at these news articles, i just can't seem to stop! did you know that mtv has a 7-figure contract with burning man? they are to manage merchanidizing related to the event. As well as a special stage with a "stellar lineup of the hottest acts." this was from a 2002 cnn article. sigh. 10:27:09 PM comment [] ![]() |

what i bring to public radio i don't assume my listeners drive cars, drink coffee, eat meat, and are straight. i could add to the list, but already that sets me apart. 9:36:56 PM comment [] ![]() |
