Synthetic Morpheme Christopher Taylor's editorials on Science, Technology, Salsa dancing and more ![]() Today I decided to dig up an old PowerPC box that I had and start using it again, but my main purpose is to use it as a Java application server. I had set it up to run Debian a couple of years ago, but I wanted to update it to the current testing branch and I needed to get the JDK on it. I took the apt sources from my i386 Debian box at work, but when I went to do an "apt-get update", it kept failing on the source that I usually use for Java packages. So, I needed to find a new apt source. I decided to use Google (of course). In the process, I discovered a site that collects information for "Unofficial APT repositories" [apt-get.org]. Excellent! That is exactly what I needed. When I went to do my search, it first asked for my platform. I selected "powerpc". For the search string, I typed "j2sdk". Within seconds I had multiple results spanning Debian branches and multiple apt sources. Sweet! Now I have Java running on my PPC Debian box. 7:51:24 PM
