Sounds like even the fag-hating, fetus-loving, gun-toting radical right may still want to keep our constitution after all - but maybe not DeLay. Let us savor this spiral downward, and throw him an anvil at EVERY opportunity.
You know any editorial that starts like this is going to be good...
Although Tom DeLay portrays a believable Third World dictator, it is time that he stopped trying to transform the United States into his own ideological fiefdom.
And it is time for him to stop sputtering ill-tempered threats, not only at the judiciary but also at the U.S. Constitution, which he repeatedly has sworn an oath to uphold.
The writer, Clay Robison, is the Austin Bureau Chief for the Houston Chronicle.
Some day, Tom DeLay will be called to account by the American people.
Sooner would be better than later for the sake of the Constitution. [...]
DeLay has rattled his impeachment saber at federal judges before, singling out those whose rulings he disliked.
The tactic is neither new nor surprising for a political leader who acts as though separation of powers means that he gets all the power. [...]
Federal judges should be held accountable. But our constitutional scheme doesn't work unless they're also independent. Politicians who don't appreciate that ought to be considered hazardous to our national health.
And here's hoping he makes good on his threat to hold Congressional hearings on the Schiavo affair and the judiciary. DeLay might single-handedly derail not only the "activist judges" meme, but also all hope of the GOP getting through the execution of the "nuclear option" unscathed.
No matter how cynical you become ... you can never keep up.
