What is really going on beneath the surface? What is the nature of the bifurcation that is unfolding? That's what interests me.

Dave Pollard posted this amazing graph this week showing the high concentration of wealth in the US. In essence a handful have it all.

The US spend more money than any other nation on healthcare and have the best technical system - the best trained doctors, the best equipment etc. But as the next graph shows have relatively poor health outcomes from a population perspective..

Why is this? It is that inequality of wealth is a powerful factor in poor health. The most ironic statistic? That Cuba has the same level of population health as Canada and hence out performs the US. Why? Because of high literacy and a small differential.
