Just noticed that Pankaj Kumar is Expert Group member of JSR 109.
9:56:31 AM

Reading through the first public draft of JSR 109 gives a first taste what Web services support in J2EE 1.4 may look like.

JSR 109 builds on top of JAX-RPC. Only SOAP HTTP(S) bindings are supported. It does not address stateful services. It does not address transactional context or security context propagation through SOAP. JAXM currently is not mentioned but may be in future versions, hopefully with respect to reliable messaging semantics and JMS.

There is no new container type for Web services. Web services can be deployed into the EJB container as stateless session beans and into the Web container as so-called JAX-RPC endpoints. For this the EJB-JAR or the WAR file get an additional deployment descriptor: webservices.xml.

The deployment process may accept an existing WSDL file. If the WSDL does not contain service and port elements they are inserted at deployment time. The deployment tool may optionally publish the WSDL file to a UDDI registry, which is cool. UDDI for service discovery however is currently not addressed.

This is version 0.3 and wether the output of this JSR will be included in J2EE will be decided within the J2EE JSR process itself.
