Rescue dogs' noses to the rescue... DC Sniffing out cancer risk to human rescue workers at the Pentagon 9/11 site is now the priority of two dogs, Bailey and Riley. During rescue operations, the dogs and their noses suffered high exposure to toxic fumes. Now the dogs' noses will be used in a cancer study to determine whether such exposure will result in nasal cancer... and the associated risk of exposure for their human comrades. 'Researchers expect the study to give the first clear picture of the health risks associated with disaster sites such as the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, where rescue dogs inhaled asbestos particles and the fumes of burning jet fuel...'  [Washington Post]
