Cold weather? help your dog 'ruf' it in comfort... DC It snowed last night. This morning our dog ran outside and frolicked in his yard. With every five steps, he'd push his giant furry head into the snow up to his eyebrows, sniffing and eating the snow. Although he's an artic dog, he still needs help enduring a snow storm. His double-thick fur coat (which takes four hours to dry [after a bath] and another four hours to groom) is not enough to keep him warm when it's cold. So we outfit him with  his own yellow slicker (when it's snowing) or a warm faux-fur coat. His paws also take extra care: 'paw protectors' ensconce them in water-proof, slip proof vinyl. At night, he sleeps under a blanket on his own warm bed inside the house. Once we snuggle a blanket on top of him, he stretches out luxuriously and snores. Without it, he curls into a tight ball and sleeps fitfully, if at all... (right now, he's snoozin' under a warm towel) Related: Cold weather tough on man's best friend, SPCA officials ponder new guidelines after dog's death, First freeze of the season expected tonight
