37 Signals has some cogent thoughts to share on the evil of buzzwords:
Buzzwords say all the wrong things. . .These buzzwords are often a mask. People who use them are covering up their ideas [~] or the lack thereof. They are overcompensating. They don[base ']t have anything substantial to say so they try to use impressive sounding words instead. . . [ Signal vs. Noise] The post goes on to quote some famous erudite speakers and writers who used simple, common words in very powerful ways.
Some people I know[~]and like[~]use buzzwords all day, every day. And after awhile all I can think is "he's been drinking the Kool Aid for too long." And I start not listening.
Also: I read Orwell's 1984 many many years ago, so I didn't remember "duckspeak." But now I'll be thinking about "duckspeak" every time I hear a buzzword. Orwell knew a lot about words, and their power.
