Well, that'll teach Congress to mess with things they don't understand: changing the dates for daylight saving time will, apparently, cause the end of civilization--

Daylight Savings Change Could Spell Doom For The World (Well, For An Hour, Anyway). As predicted a few weeks ago, stories of doom-and-gloom about the forthcoming Daylight Savings Time changes causing all sorts of computer chaos are starting to pile up. . . [Techdirt]

Now, I don't know which is more silly: the fantasy that adjusting the dates for DST will actually save any daylight, much less energy; the fantasy that erroneous computer time settings will have any more than momentary impact on anyone; or the fact that computer hardware makers and developers actually hard-coded the dates for DST into their hardware/firmware/whateverware, knowing full well that Congress will go and muck things up . . . and that DST is not universally observed across the same dates (if at all) around the world.

Move along, nothing to see here.

An actual response, nay, a comment thread, on my statement that discussing technical writing is boring, at Tom Johnson's I'd Rather Be Writing blog. You can read my response over there. . .
