•••Seek and You Shall Find

Let it not be said the preacherman is insensitive or entirely unresponsive to the needs of his readers. Enjoy the search box, friends, compliments a little nudge from Bryan and bit of free code from Google.

•••My Media Man

Had to email this to Bryan!

Cult Film Company Goes Digital. The low-budget film company that made such classics as The Toxic Avenger is going digital. By Brad King. [from Wired News]

For those of you who don't know him, Bryan is my best friend from the undergrad days. Lived on the same dorm floor, played in the same band -- all that good college stuff. He's also the fella who taught me how to love, really love, a bad grade-B horror movie. And nothing says grade-B horror like Troma.

I see Bryan (and his son Kel) quite often, though now that he's a real college Professor and everything he's developed a whole 'working even when I'm not working' side that I thought was much more my obsessive style than his. But it's summer now. Semester has ended.

Most anything and everything I've learned about the media, I've learned from Bryan. TV, Radio, Print, Video Games -- he's even the one that first got me connected online (through Prodigy at that time, on a whopping 9600 baud modem, then I moved up to AOL at 14.4k!!!). He helped me see the light and become a Mac owner. He introduced me to Clan Lord, even, back in the beta days. Those of you who know me online, but don't know Bryan don't realize how much we both owe to him.

As much a media junkie as he is, I'm kind of surprised he hasn't gotten more into web publishing. But then, I guess I'm generally a more 'text-driven' person, and he likely more 'a/v-driven.' Another thing people don't know about Bryan is he's the guy who tends to see what I could do well and thoroughly enjoy doing long before I actually do it. It generally takes him at least six months or so to successfully plant a thought in my brain and nurture it to the point it bears fruit in my actions. It was that way with starting our college band.

You see, Bryan has a knack for believing in me more than I do most of the time. I frankly don't know what I would do without his subversive way of challenging me to be more "Jeff." Not a lot of people in my life can do what he does. Far fewer even want to.

One of these days he and I will make a short film. For real. If I know us, it'll probably have something to do with both Jesus and mass murderers, somehow. And we'll both like it a lot. Chances are, if you even knew who Troma was before you read this, you will too.
