Anyone remember back in September when I said:
It can't be long now before someone starts printing T-shirts. Were I a shrewd business fella, I'd set up an online store myself and make a buck or two, I guess. (9/17/2002)
Well, I blew my big chance to make a fortune. Check out the Benke swag, with all proceeds going to the "David H. Benke Advocacy and Defense Fund."
Interesting to consider whether such funds could theoretically be used to sue his own church body at some point...
I wonder what all the cool pastors will be wearing at our next District conference? The hat or the t-shirt? Maybe the coffee mug is more understated and reserved. Regardless, that free button with every order is a sure hit to make anyone the ordained envy of all one's friends.
So I'm praying a lot these days, "lead us not into temptation" because (God forbid) it's taking every bit of restraint I can muster not to set up my own online store to sell "It's OK to Bray -- Dr. David Donkey" counter-swag...
Next supposedly hyperbolic, off-the cuff prediction from the preacherman:
"It can't be long now before someone sets up a new broadcast ministry in the name of mission work, centered around this new SPIRIT organization and further promoting interfaith dialogue in the on-air public square, featuring none other than Dr. Donkey..."
Wait, and watch, and see to what ridiculous extremes this spectacle can extend -- cause it surely ain't over by a long shot, once decorum and dignity have been so thoroughly thrown to the winds.
Kyrie, eleison.
